Welcome to CoachMoe.com, the official web site for Agony to Ecstasy, the memoir of West Oakland basketball coach Dwight Nathaniel. Below, is a synopsis of the book. Click around for more information.
It takes a brave person to confront life’s harshest obstacles, and an even braver person to confront those obstacles in the spotlight of the public. But basketball has always helped high school coach Dwight Nathaniel and his players get through the best and worst of times. No more was that evident than in the poignant and true story of the 2007-2008 McClymonds Warriors, a team from the gritty west side of Oakland that wrote the final chapter to an inspirational saga of love and perseverance that was filled with record-breaking success and tragic calamities.
From a devastated coach who found the strength to move on from a terrible tragedy to the uplifting and all too real revelations of the group’s five star players, the Warriors’ determined run towards a state title captivated an entire city in desperate need of good news. The story of the Warriors, headlined by Nathaniel and his players, proves that with faith in God, belief in one another, and confidence within, people can overcome even the toughest of life’s hurdles.
The web site also features Dwight Nathaniel's second book, McClymonds High: The School of Champions. The book delves deep into the rich basketball history of West Oakland's only public high school, highlighting six decades - from 1950 thru 2009 - of the most prominent players, coaches and teams to walk halls of an educational landmark that locals affectionately call "The Mack House." The book gives readers an inside look into the soul of West Oakland and arguably the greatest and most significant high school basketball program of all time.
